SHAH ALAM 8 Aug - Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has urged the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) to conduct its duties in a professional manner, not to be extreme in its enforcement and to respect people of other faiths.
In a meet up with JAIS personnel, here, today, the Selangor ruler also urged Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) and JAIS not to be involved in any political agenda of any party.
“JAIS should have a set standard operating procedure (SOP) and should avoid roughing up the public when exercising its authority.”
He also urged both organisations not to be extreme and to avoid casting aside the rights of individuals as accorded by the country’s laws.
“Of late, JAIS has gone through various challenges with several baseless accusations made against the organisation,”
He went on to explain that this was because the current generation was exposed to various slanderous news.
“Proper planning should be made when exercising JAIS’ authority.”
The ruler suggested both organisations to come prepared with photography equipment, video cameras, diaries, various equipment and witnesses who can be trusted to ensure smooth proceedings when both organisations conduct its duties.
